Paired Reading
3rd Oct 2025
Ms Duffy's class and Ms Nee's class have been doing some paired reading recently. This is a highly effective way to promote literacy and build connections across the school. It allows younger children to hear fluent reading being modelled by older pupils, helping them develop expression, confidence, and vocabulary. For Senior Infants and 1st Class pupils, reading with a supportive older partner makes the experience enjoyable, motivating, and less intimidating than reading in front of adults. They benefit from individual attention and encouragement, which boosts their confidence and engagement with books.
The 5th Class pupils also gain from the process, as teaching strategies to younger children reinforces their own reading skills. Acting as reading buddies helps them develop patience, empathy, and a sense of leadership. They take pride in being role models and supporting younger classmates, which strengthens their confidence. Well done to all
