Station Teaching in 3rd/4th Class

16th Jan 2026

We are implementing Station Teaching across the school this year and are currently working on literacy in 3rd and 4th class to support differentiated learning and active pupil engagement. During station teaching, pupils rotate through a series of focused activities designed to develop key literacy skills, including reading comprehension, spelling, vocabulary, handwriting and oral language. Each station targets a specific learning objective, allowing teachers to address a wide range of abilities within the classroom.

Teacher-led stations provide opportunities for explicit instruction and targeted support for individuals or small groups. Independent and collaborative stations encourage pupils to work responsibly, apply learned strategies and support one another through paired and group tasks. Digital literacy stations, using laptops further enhance learning by offering interactive reading programmes and writing activities.

Station teaching promotes pupil independence, confidence and accountability, as children learn to manage their time and resources effectively. It also allows teachers to closely monitor progress, assess learning and adjust instruction to meet pupils’ needs.

The boys and girls really enjoyed their first week of Station Teaching!
