Yard Games
A range of new yard games has been introduced to enhance students’ playtime experiences and encourage positive social interaction during break times. The addition of large building blocks and polygon tiles has provided pupils with opportunities to design, construct and problem-solve collaboratively. These resources support creativity, spatial awareness and teamwork, as children work together to build structures, patterns and imaginative creations.
Classic games such as Jenga and Connect 4 have also been added to the yard. These games promote turn-taking, patience, strategic thinking and friendly competition, while offering a calm and inclusive option for pupils who prefer quieter play. Students are often seen engaging in animated discussions, supporting one another and celebrating successes together.
Swing ball has proven particularly popular, encouraging physical activity, coordination and cooperative play. Pupils take turns serving and rallying, learning to follow rules and resolve disagreements fairly. The game naturally promotes inclusion, as students of different ages and abilities can participate together.
Overall, the introduction of these new yard games has had a very positive impact. Pupils are highly engaged, active and enthusiastic, with noticeable improvements in social skills, cooperation and enjoyment during break times. We continue on our journey working towards our Active Flag!
